Fed: Guests arriving for swearing in of new GG
CANBERRA, Aug 11 AAP - Guests have started arriving at Parliament House in Canberrafor the swearing in of new Governor-General Michael Jeffery.
Those attending include former Governor-General Sir William Deane and Lady Deane, aswell as representatives of embassies and community nd church leaders.
Major-General Jeffery, 65, replaces Dr Peter Hollingworth, who resigned prematurelydue to controversy over his handling of child sex abuse cases when he was Anglican Archbishopof Brisbane.
A former governor of Western Australia, Major-General Jeffery will be the first Australian-borngovernor-general to have had a full-time military career.
Major-General Jeffery will break with tradition and plans a three-minute address afterhe is sworn in by High Court Chief Justice Murray Gleeson today.
He will then take up residence at the official Governor-General's residence Yarralumla,on the shores of Canberra's lake Burley Griffin.
